Worried by inadequate funds for important government agencies, the Senate Committee on National Identity Management and Population on Tuesday sought for more funding for the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in the 2025 appropriation.

Indeed, the Senate Committee on National Identity Management and Population bemoaned neglect of critical agency like NIMC in terms of funding.

The chairman of the committee, Senator Abdul Ningi, consequently sought for an upward review of the 2025 budgetary allocation to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

It would be recalled that NIMC’s Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abisoye Coker Odusote, explained the challenges faced by the commission due to limited funds, including the inability to adopt modern technologies essential for its operations.

But despite the challenges, Odusote assured the Committee that staff salaries have been paid on time and outlined plans to enhance the commission’s internally generated revenue (IGR).

The NIMC boss spoke during the 2025 budget defence for the commission held in Abuja.

To this end, the Committee resolved to summon the Ministers of Budget and National Planning and the Minister of Finance to explain the rationale behind the meager allocation in the 2025 budget proposal.

Meanwhile, the committee expressed satisfaction with the presentation by Engr. Odusote.
