Linus Aleke, Abuja

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, yesterday talked personnel of the Nigeria Navy to pay special attention to their physical fitness and mental alertness, stressing that these are the foundation of military profession.

Ogalla also admonished naval personnel to be deliberate about regular exercise to improve their physical fitness and mental alertness. He further emphasized the importance of physical exercise in preparing navy personnel for peace keeping and combat operations.

Ogalla gave this charge while addressing participants of the 2024 Second Quarter Route March, organized by the Nigerian Navy across its units and formations in Nigeria.

Represented by Chief of Administration (Navy), Rear Admiral Kennedy Ezete, the CNS eulogized the commitment and enthusiasm exhibited by naval officers and ratings during the physical exercise.

Addressing the press after the quarterly route march in Abuja, Ogalla said: “It is a quarterly exercise and the reason for this exercise is to ensure that our officers and men are physically fit for the naval job that we have been assigned to do. It also aimed to promote comradeship and esprit de corps amongst personnel, for the populace to know that they have a navy that its personnel are physically fit to carryout their assigned task”.

The route march, which covered 10 kilometers, began at the Naval Unit in Asokoro, Abuja, and ended at the popular AYA junction before returning to the base.
