The Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, says the Federal Government is committed to ensuring the implementation of inclusive education policies.

Suwaiba disclosed this at the Annual Inclusive Education Conference organised by British Council in Abuja on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the conference was” Bridging the Gap Between Inclusive Education”.

Suwaiba emphasised on the need for every child, regardless of their background or situation, to have access to quality education.

”We are building an educational system that will not leave any child behind.

”The inclusive education is part of the renewed hope agenda which is why the federal government is showing its support and commitment,” she said.

She added that the policy would promote access to equal and quality education, support conducive learning environment, and foster inclusive learning environment for students.

In the same vein, the Commissioner for Education, Rivers, Dr Chinedum Chukwuma, also said the government was doing its best in ensuring that every child is educated while calling on parents to also play their role to complement government’s efforts.

”Government is focusing on bringing every child into the educational system but parents also have roles to play.

”Most parents don’t understand parenting and are not capable of coaching a child, which is why we have a standard for good parenting,” he said.

Also, the Director of Programmes, British Council, Chikodi Onyeremela, said that inclusive education would address the challenge of learners excluded from the educational system.

”Those who are excluded fall into the vulnerable due to some reasons which could be poor background, disability, amongst others.

”We believe that every child matters and have the fundamental right to education. That’s why we have brought together stakeholders from different levels to address the issues .

NAN reports that the event featured the inauguration of the National Working Committee for Inclusive Education by Ahmad. (NAN)
