The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has strongly denied recent reports claiming that customers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states receive just two hours of electricity supply daily. The company described such claims as misleading and exaggerated, not reflecting the actual situation on the ground.

According to KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala, data from the past five days shows the company received between 3.9 GWh and 4.7 GWh of electricity daily, far exceeding the 0.4 to 0.56 GWh that would correspond to only two hours of supply. This recent reduction of 20 to 30% from the usual 5 to 7 GWh per day is due to critical network upgrades aimed at increasing energy delivery to customers in bands B, C, and D..

KEDCO highlighted that in March 2025, customers enjoyed an average of 14.44 hours of daily power supply, and from April 1 to 17, the average was 9.40 hours. These improvements were made to accommodate increased demand during Ramadan and are expected to be sustained and enhanced by ongoing upgrades.

Despite the temporary supply reduction, KEDCO assured that critical feeders serving utilities, social services, and businesses continue to receive full power supply. Many customers have already started to notice significant improvements as the upgrade works near completion.

KEDCO reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, continuous service improvement, and urged customers to report any specific issues through official customer care channels for prompt resolution. The company is investing in network expansion and reliability enhancements to reduce technical losses and ensure fair electricity distribution across its franchise areas.

Sani Bala concluded by emphasizing KEDCO’s dedication to providing improved and equitable power supply across Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states, despite challenges during upgrade periods.
