By Ekuson Nw’Ogbunka, Abuja

The President of the United Furniture Association of Nigeria (UFAN), Dr. Prince Emeka Egwuekwe, who is also the CEO of Prince Interior Furnishing and Furniture Company Limited, Abuja has hailed the government’s efforts so far in supporting local industries.

Addressing journalists in his office In Abuja while sending his Democracy Day message to those in authority, Egwuekwe urged the government to take further steps and be serious toward encouraging local manufacturers to boost the economy.

To achieve this and return the economy to its lost glory in Nigeria, he urged the government to ensure that importation of goods that can be produced locally in Nigeria is stopped, even as he encouraged the government to promote the exportation of locally manufactured goods to enhance a favorable balance of trade at the international level.

Advising the government to lead by example by ensuring that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) patronize local manufacturers, Dr Prince Emeka Egwuekwe recommended the establishment of a bank, different from the Bank of Industries (BoI), that would provide loans to manufacturers at little or no interest. Egwuekwe also urged the government to do everything legitimately possible to ensure a steady electricity supply to support local industries, informing that they spend a lot for gas, which in turn, according to him is transferred to the prices of locally manufactured goods.

The UFAN President’s message serves as a call to action for the government to prioritize the growth and development of local industries. By implementing these recommendations, the government can create a more favorable business environment and boost the economy.
