The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has strongly condemned the alleged harassment, intimidation, and verbal abuse directed at journalist Ladi Bala by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Kayode Opeifa.

According to a press statement from Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the FCT NUJ Secretary on Friday and made available to media houses, on August 27, 2025, Bala was covering the aftermath of a train derailment along the Abuja-Kaduna rail line when Opeifa allegedly subjected her to unprovoked verbal abuse, using derogatory language and questioning her professionalism.

The NUJ FCT Council has demanded a public apology from Opeifa for his actions, which they deem unacceptable and unprofessional.

The union’s response highlights the importance of protecting journalists’ rights and safety while performing their duties.

The incident raises concerns about the treatment of journalists by public officials and the need for a safe and respectful environment for journalists to carry out their work.

The NUJ’s condemnation of Opeifa’s actions serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding journalists’ rights and dignity.
