The Khadijah Awards Foundation, on Sunday, appealed for partnership with the Federal Government and the United Nations, to support orphans and vulnerable children through Quranic education.

Founder of the platform, Hajia Khadijah Fashina, made the appeal in Abuja, at the second Memorisation Competition among 10 orphanage homes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Fashina stressed that empowering orphans through Quranic knowledge is key to addressing many global and national challenges.

According to her, the Quran offers guidance capable of resolving all the world’s problems, including difficulties confronting the nation.

She warned that neglecting vulnerable children could worsen existing social problems, adding that educational support could afford them reprieve.

“The Quran is a noble book that has solutions to all the world’s problems and challenges; we want the UN and Nigerian government to actually partner with us,” she said

She noted that if these vulnerable children are not catered for, they could cause more problems in society.

According to her, the competition is designed to promote inclusivity for orphans and vulnerable children who lack access to quality Quranic education.

She said that the competition also served as a platform for muslim orphanages, to highlight their challenges and attract support.

Meanwhile, she disclosed that 10 orphanages participated in the 2025 edition, with the children receiving study gifts and competing for cash prizes, pegged at one million naira

“We intend for this to be a quarterly event, and we are going to take it up to the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria,” she said.

Also speaking, the Chief Imam of Sunnyvale, Lukman Iwalewa, underscored the need to focus on orphans, as they were often excluded from sustainable opportunities.

He called for stakeholders’ commitment to raising a “Quranic generation” that would strengthen communities and elevate the societies.

On her part, co-founder of the organisation, Hajia Zainab Basah, said that the competition is created to give orphans a platform which they were often denied.

She expressed hope that the platform will provide an opportunity for the children to showcase their abilities and gifts.(NAN)
