A delegation from the Association of President Generals (PGs) of Igbo speaking states in Abuja recently visited Chief Simon Okeke, the Ochendo Ndigbo, at his Abuja home to congratulate him on his 90th birthday.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation’s Chairman, Chief Marcel Ezeagu said they came to share moments of joy with the revered leader and wish him well.

Ezeagu described Okeke as a symbol of unity, sacrifice, and resilience, saying he is an embodiment of the Igbo people’s values.

The Ochendo, which means “the renowned umbrella”, is a title that signifies protection and shelter for all, Ezeagu explained.

The delegation expressed confidence that Okeke’s legacy would continue to inspire future generations.

Okeke, in his response, advised the Igbo people to live true to their values of industriousness, hard work, and community spirit.

He recalled how the Igbo people had bridged the gap with other ethnic groups through collective efforts, noting that they had become one of the most economically empowered groups in Nigeria.

Okeke urged the Igbo people to continue working together to improve their well-being and that of those around them.

He emphasized the importance of setting a good example for others to follow, saying “know yourselves, be an example for others to copy”.

The Ochendo expressed his gratitude to the delegation and prayed for God’s continued blessings on the Igbo people.
