The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has attributed the recent conviction of some Boko Haram terrorists as well as the accelerated trial of another five hundred suspected terrorists as a clear demonstration of the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu administration to tackle insecurity headlong.

In a statement signed by its Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe, the group described it as a sign of renewed vigour to ensure justice for victims of insurgency

The statement read in full, “With the trial and subsequent conviction of more than 10 Boko Haram terrorists out of over 500 standing trial in Abuja, it is clear that a new vigour has been injected in the prosecution processes aimed at ensuring that justice is served.

“Before now most of the cases had been lingering without trial between five and seven years.

“It is also noted that the phased trial of the suspected terrorists, which is the 9th in the series, will lead to a speedy dispensation of justice as those found guilty will be penalised for their offence.

“We note that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja had sentenced four Boko Haram terrorists to life imprisonment after they pleaded guilty to charges of terrorism brought by the federal government against them.

“The court also convicted fourteen other suspects and handed down prison terms ranging from 20 to 25 years on the various counts filed against them.

“We consider the convictions as a display of the federal government’s commitment to promptly prosecuting terrorism-related cases as a way of strengthening national security and restoring faith in the country’s judicial system.
“It is also gratifying that in the bid to expedite action on the mass trial, the federal government, through the office of the Attorney–General of the Federation, empanelled 10 judges to handle the cases as a way of fast-tracking the trial and dispensation of justice.”

The group also commend the judges who sacrificed their Easter vacation to focus on the terrorism cases.
