TCN Announces Two-Hour Power Outage in Gwagwalada, Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a two-hour power outage in Gwagwalada and adjoining areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday, October 5, 2026, to enable urgent maintenance work at its Gwagwalada 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

In a notice issued on Sunday, TCN said the maintenance exercise would take place between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.

According to the company, its maintenance crew will use the two-hour window to connect an earthing reactor to a 60MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the substation.

TCN explained that the exercise would temporarily prevent the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) from taking power to customers supplied through the affected transmission facility.

It listed Watson Door, Gwagwalada and adjoining areas among locations expected to experience the interruption during the maintenance period.

The company said the planned intervention was necessary to facilitate the connection of the earthing reactor to the transformer.

“Consequently, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to offtake power to its customers at Watson door, Gwagwalada, and adjoining areas for two hours,” TCN said.

The transmission company apologised to electricity consumers in the affected areas for the inconvenience the exercise may cause.

The outage comes as TCN continues maintenance and reinforcement activities on its transmission infrastructure aimed at improving the reliability and safety of electricity supply across the country.

TCN urged affected electricity consumers to take note of the scheduled two-hour interruption.
