NAF Trainer Aircraft Crashes In Benue

A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) FT-7NI trainer aircraft has crashed in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The crash which took place at about 4:15pm on Friday afternoon did not suffer any casualties apart from the damaged aircraft.

In a statement signed by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force said that the pilots that ejected from the plane at the time of the incident were currently under observation at the NAF Base Hospital, Makurdi.

According to the statement, a “Nigerian Air Force FT-7NI trainer aircraft crashed today (Friday), 14th July, 2023 at about 4.15pm at Makurdi, Benue State, while on a routine training exercise.

“Luckily the 2 pilots on board survived the crash after successfully ejecting from the aircraft.

“Additionally, there was no loss of lives or damage to any property around the area of impact. Both pilots are currently under observation at NAF Base Hospital, Makurdi.

“Meanwhile, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has constituted a Board of Inquiry to determine the immediate and remote cause of the crash”, he said.
