The Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) has congratulated Mr. Bayo Onanuga CON, Special Adviser on Information & Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, on receiving the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).
The award, announced during the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations at the National Assembly, recognizes Onanuga’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle and public service.
In a statement signed by Gbemiga Olamikan, the Public Relations Officer of ACOE, and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, Omosola Akingboye, newly elected Chairman of ACOE, praised Onanuga’s dedication and impact, wishing him continued success and pledging the association’s commitment to fostering strong media collaboration with his office to help build a new Nigeria.
Onanuga expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the honour, acknowledging it as recognition of the sacrifices made by himself and others who fought to restore democracy after the annulled June 12, 1993 election. He vowed to continue serving the nation diligently.
The award places Onanuga among other notable Nigerians honoured for their roles in advancing democracy, including journalists, activists, and public figures such as Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka and Bishop Matthew Kukah.
This recognition highlights Onanuga’s enduring legacy as a veteran journalist and democracy advocate, reaffirming his influence in Nigeria’s media and political landscape.
