Blueprint Newspapers Correspondent, Adeola Akinbobola has been given an award for Outing Journalist at the just concluded 2026, World Cancer Day celebration.
The award was given by theProject PINK BLUE – Health & Psychological Trust Centre,a focused on cancer awareness, free cancer screening for rural hard-to-reach communities and poor women; support to people battling with cancer, psychological support, navigation, and advocacy.
The Executive Director, Runice Chidibe said the award was in recognition of her outstanding dedication and service to humanity through impactful journalism in cancer prevention and control.
Chidebe used the opportunity to call on the federal government to implement an organized national cancer screening program.
He said presently, Nigeria does not have a national and organized cancer screening; what we have is sporadic screenings- happening here and there.
While responding, Adeola dedicated the award to God, and Blueprint Newspaper, for giving her the platform and assured that she won’t relent in amplifying cancer related cases.
She also assured to continue to tell the world that deaths are still happening on daily basis because of multiple system barriers in our healthcare, a limited oncology workforce, and poverty.
