The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has commended the Head of Service of the Federation (HOS), Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan for the role played in the integration of the Nigerian Skills Qualification (NSQ) levels 1 to 5 into the National Scheme of Service.
The Executive Secretary, NBTE, Prof. Idris Bugaje gave the commendation in a statement made available to newsmen by Board’s Head of Media, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar in Abuja on Tuesday.
Bugaje said the move would give qualification for employment and promotion.
The executive secretary also lauded the efforts of the HOS and the National Council on Establishment for the NSQ to be integrated into the National Scheme of Service at their recent meeting in Bauchi.
“She deserves our abounding appreciation. Sincerely, she and everyone that contributed to this success, deserve to be commended.
“Getting to the highest ladder of National Council on Establishment is not an easy task.
“This singular move will encourage Nigerian youths to get up-skilled as opportunities abound in not only the private sector but now the public sector,” he said.
Bugaje said NSQs are now awarded not only in technical and vocational institutions in Nigeria but also available for the informal sector through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
He, therefore, said there was need to key into today’s global economies which he said was driven by skills as many opportunities abound for certified skilled youths in Nigeria and the diaspora.
The Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) is a system for the development, classification, and recognition of skills, knowledge, and competencies acquired by individuals, irrespective of where and how the training or skill was acquired.
The system gives a clear statement of what the learner must know or be able to do whether the learning took place in a classroom, on-the-job, or less formally.
The framework is the structure within which the National Skills Qualifications (NSQs) operate.
NSQ is designed to promote lifelong learning through understanding occupational learning routes and qualifications and how they relate to each other, providing access to vocational education and training opportunities, making progression routes easier and clearer, and improving career mobility.
