The Chronicle Business School (CBS) recently held its 30th Inaugural Lecture, themed “Strategic Synergies; Rethinking Teachers’ Continuous Mandatory Education, Training and Welfare in a Democracy for National Development.” The event took place at Bolingo Experia Hotels and Towers in Abuja.

During the ceremony, teachers were recognized for their contributions to education, receiving honorary doctorate degrees in public administration and distinguished fellowship merit awards. The awards were presented in collaboration with Cornerstone University, Jerusalem, Israel.

Recipients, including Dr. Okpe Samuel and Hajiya Ramatu Musa, expressed gratitude for the recognition. Dr. Samuel noted that the award would motivate recipients and others, ultimately impacting positively on education in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of promoting teacher welfare, citing the significant role teachers play in shaping individuals and society.

On the challenges and opportunities, Dr. Afolabi Olajuwon, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication and Journalism at CBS, in his keynote address, highlighted the challenges facing education, including the gap between academia and industry. He emphasized the need for collaboration, innovation, and diversity in education.

Dr. Ismaila Yahaya Evutu, Principal of JSS Abattoir, Gwagwalada, proposed recommendations to improve teacher welfare, including competitive salaries, comprehensive healthcare, professional development opportunities, and increased education budgets.

Similarly, Dr. Anderson Kolawale Ose, Chairman of the occasion, emphasized the importance of teacher training and retraining, citing education as the bedrock of society. He noted that Nigerian teachers lack requisite training, particularly in the digital age, and urged government and stakeholders to address this issue.

Earlier in his welcome address, the founder and president of CBS, Dr. Godwin Thomas Nyitche, urged teachers and leaders to work together to address the challenges facing Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of education in national development and encouraged awardees to continue making positive impacts.

The event underscored the significance of valuing and supporting educators in shaping the future of Nigeria.
