Represented by the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Prince Richard Idike, the Governor congratulated the Corps members for the successful completion of their academic pursuit through which they graduated from various high Institutions of learning and their patriotic response to the clarion call to serve the fatherland in the state.

He described Ebonyi as a state where hospitality reigns supreme, and expressed his determination to introduce reward system for the Corps members who would distinguish themselves while serving in the state.

“We are also determined to continue to acknowledge honour and reward all outstanding Corps members who will distinguish themselves amongst you. I wish you a seamless and happy Orientation Programme and the most fulfilling national service in Ebonyi State,” he said.

While assuring the Corps members of his administrative support to discharge their lawful duties in Ebonyi, the governor urged them to use best of their ability to promote national integration and development during their service year to the state.

“We must avoid any atom
of political instability to guarantee Economic development and justice reign. Beloved compatriots, the scheme which you are today inducted into, has
over the years served as a veritable instrument of national integration and a
strong bond that binds together our multi-ethnic nationalities into one people,” he added

In her address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Nasamu Olayinka commended the state governor alongside other dignitaries who honoured the event.

Mrs Olayinka explained that the NYSC scheme was established by decree (now act) NO 24 of 22nd May 1973, in furtherance of the federal government’s post-war policy of realizing the much-needed National unity and integration among all the tribes of Nigeria.

“To achieve this, the service has been carefully planned and segmented into four cardinal programmes namely Orientation, primary assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and the winding-up and packaged to instil in the corps members a disciplined mind and sense of the year.

“It is on this note that I urge you to take every aspect of the orientation course very seriously especially the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to train you in different skills.”

She also urged them to avoid any form of social vices but rather be committed to promoting the core values of the scheme, especially in peaceful coexistence and nation-building.
