As the world marks International Education Day, Enugu State has expressed its commitment in harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform the learning experience in schools.

Professor Ndubueze, state Commissioner for Education stated this while speaking with Journalists in enugu said the theme of this year’s celebration, “AI and Education,” is particularly apt, given the state’s pioneering work in this area.

Professor Mbah, noted that Enugu State has already begun to integrate AI into its education system, with a focus on education governance and curriculum development.

He said “We are part of a global conversation on AI and education and we are committed to harnessing the potential of AI to improve learning outcomes and equip our students with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.”

He said the State government has developed an innovative Education Management System (NMS), backed by AI, to streamline education governance and improve efficiency.

“The system is used in each of the state’s Smart Green Schools to take attendance records, document assessments, and manage facilities.

“One of the key benefits of the NMS is its ability to provide real-time data and insights, enabling educators and policymakers to make informed decisions.

He highlighted the crucial role of UNICEF in the state’s remarkable progress in education.

According to Prof. Mbah, UNICEF’s support enabled the state to conduct its annual school census, catching up on 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 data.

“This achievement has positioned Enugu State as one of the few states with complete annual school census data, making it pre-qualified for national education intervention programs.

The Commisioner emphasized that UNICEF’s support has been instrumental in developing the state’s sector plan and action plans.

He noted that Enugu State has been designated as one of UNICEF’s focal states, alongside four other states saying “designation makes Enugu State a priority investment destination for UNICEF’s national intervention programs.
