A 33-year old professional cleaner and IT programmer who has been battling with kidney failure has appealed to the three tiers of government, corporate organizations and good spirited individuals to assist and save him from dying.

Self employed Awele Oshekita from Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state (the mother from Delta) who is placed on dialysis for sustenance said the family can no longer afford the hospital payment every week.

“I am dying gradually at home. I don’t want to die. I have been sick since November last year when I was in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. I am in Asaba at the moment and attend a hospital in Onitsha, Anambra state for dialysis. My family spend so much a week to sustain me. I want to continue my normal life”, Awele told journalists in Asaba, Delta state.

A member of the family, Mrs Georgina Konwea who has been caring for the patient said the sum of N30m would be needed to carry out kidney transplant on Awele in India.

Speaking from her Peter Onwusanya street, off Falcon road residence in Asaba, the care giver quipped: “How do we get the money. We have exhausted our savings For every dialysis he goes through, we cough out about N150,000 and he goes to hospital three times a week. The burden is too much for us to bear.

“That’s why we are appealing for help so that we can go for the kidney transplantation in India or elsewhere in Abuja.

“Awele was earlier admitted at Federal Medical center Asaba with different complications on January 30, 2024. From there we were referred to Asaba Specialist hospital, Asaba and finally referred to a hospital in Onitsha.

“The treatment takes us N450,000 a week and we have done the ninth session.”
