The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has inaugurated the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Mr. Thompson Oludare Sunday, alongside the Executive Director (Operations), Dr. Kabir Sabo Katata, at the Ministry of Finance in Abuja.
Hawwau Gambo, Head, Communication & Public Affairs Department, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said that the Minister, in his remarks during the occasion, emphasized that the NDIC, as a key component of the financial safety-net, plays a crucial role in the nation’s progress toward economic stability and prosperity.
He therefore charged the new Management team to leverage their diverse wealth of experience in their assignments, while assuring them of the Ministry’s full support in the tasks ahead.
Responding, Mr. Sunday, speaking on behalf of the Management team, expressed gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for their appointments.
He assured the Minister of their readiness, under his leadership, to meet the expectations of the President and the nation in performing their duties.
The Management was later welcomed warmly by the workforce at the Corporation’s Head Office.
Addressing the staff on behalf of the Management team, Mr. Sunday pledged to collaborate harmoniously with the employees to advance the Corporation to the next level of performance.
He stressed that the Management’s focus would be aligned with the public policy objectives, functions, and mandates assigned to the Corporation by the enabling law.
Thompson Oludare Sunday is a seasoned financial expert with over 30 years of regulatory and supervisory experience.
Starting his career at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 1989, he developed advanced knowledge in Central Banking, dedicating 24 consecutive years to banking supervision.
His extensive expertise covers corporate governance, risk management, and compliance as essential tools for ensuring the safety and soundness of institutions.
He is recognized as a highly analytical and collaborative team player with a strong commitment to building individual and institutional capacity for transformation and excellence.
His skills and experience were honed through key responsibilities and special assignments at the apex bank before retiring as a Director in 2021.
The Executive Director (Operations), Dr. Kabir Sabo Katata, is a quantitative energy strategist and computational finance expert with strong experience in power trading and risk management.
He brings over 28 years of experience in designing and managing innovative systems across telecommunications, IT, energy (petroleum and power), finance, and government sectors. Dr. Katata specializes in sophisticated financial optimization, and the application of modern statistical techniques and mathematics to the energy, deposit insurance, and banking sectors.
He joined the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation in 2012 as an Assistant Director in the Research, Policy, and International Relations Department, rising to become a Director in January 2022 before his appointment as Executive Director (Operations).
