The Federal Government has inaugurated projects worth nearly N200 million, initiated and funded by the alumni association of the Federal Government Academy, Suleja.

During the commissioning ceremony in Abuja on Saturday, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, praised the alumni for their contributions to the institution that shaped their lives.

Represented by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadri, Sani-Gwarzo commended the alumni’s dedication to improving their alma mater.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the projects included the renovation of hostels, toilets, and laundries; roof painting; and the installation of solar power systems for hostels, dining halls, and clinics.

In his remarks, Sani-Gwarzo said, “This event is not just about commissioning structures; it is a testament to the enduring legacy of this great institution and the gratitude of its alumni.

“The Federal Government Academy has always been a beacon of hope and innovation in education, nurturing gifted and talented children to achieve their full potential”.

He noted the impact of the alumni’s investment, noting that such initiatives exemplify how collaboration between current and former students can foster educational development.

He further stated that the new facilities would enhance the learning environment while fostering pride and responsibility among the students.

Sani-Gwarzo urged the students to make the most of the improved facilities, maintain discipline, and continue striving for excellence.

The school’s Principal, Dr Asmau Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the alumni association for their contributions, which she said had positively influenced the students’ wellbeing and education.

“Your investment in this institution reflects the values we hold dear and will have a lasting impact on our students. The improved learning environment will enable academic excellence in every aspect,” she said.

Abdullahi also noted that over 60 per cent of the alumni are based abroad, yet they collaborated to fund the projects, showcasing their commitment to the school.

The President of the Alumni Association, Dapo Adesina, revealed that the initiative was spearheaded by the Class of 2004 to mark their 20th anniversary.

He added that other alumni groups supported the project, which demonstrated the collective dedication of the alumni community.

“The Class of 2004 decided to give back to the academy, and all alumni sets contributed to the success of this project,” Adesina said.

The school’s Head Boy, Abdulafeez Abdulganiyu, pledged that the students would use the facilities responsibly and ensure they are well-maintained. (NAN)
