The Federal Government has given 20 trucks of rice each to the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said this after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.

He said it was the first step by the FG to address the issue of food shortage in the country.

He appealed to the governors to ensure effective distribution of the food item to the most vulnerable in the society.

The nation’s inflation figure has reached a new high of 34.19% for June 2024, according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

This was largely due to a rise in food inflation for June 2024 in comparison with May 2024.

The food inflation rate in June 2024 was put at 2.55%, showing a 0.26% increase compared to 2.28% in May 2024.
