By Toby Chuks

The national headquarters of a political pressure group known as Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK) Grassroots Movement of Nigeria in Abuja came alive in agog yesterday following the Appeal Court judgement that upheld the victory of their Principal Senator Orji Uzor Kalu a former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the Senate Chamber of the National Assembly of Nigeria.

In a unanimous judgement, the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos upheld the judgement of the National/State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia, Abia State, which earlier dismissed the petitions of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mao Ohuabunwa, and that of Labour Party (LP), Nnamdi Iro Orji, for lacking merit. The appellate court, while upholding the victory of Kalu, said the election of the former Abia State governor to represent Abia North in the Senate complied with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The news of the Appeal Court judgement sparked wide jubilation among the teaming members of OUK Movement who trooped to their national headquarters to celebrate the victory of their principal. Addressing journalists, the Convener and national leader of the Movement Alhaji Muritala Mohammed alias Ten Ten described the judgment as a victory for the good people of Abia North, victory for democracy, victory for the Movement and of course victory for good performance of their principal who gave the Constituents a solid representation in his first term as a Senator.

Alhaji Ten Ten commended the Appeal Court judges for standing on the side of the truth because according to him, their principal won the election clean clear in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act following his solid performance in his first four years in the Senate and coupled with mass mobilisation campaign aided by the Movement who ensured that all their members that cut across livestock dealers, food stuff dealers and transporters living under Abia North Senatorial zone voted for their principal.

While assuring that the Movement will continue to mobilise support for their Principal, he also congratulated the good people of Abia North Senatorial zone adding that the victory has put them in a position to further enjoy another four years of solid representation in the Senate with delivery of dividends of democracy in various areas of importance like education, road, water, electricity, human empowerment and poverty alleviation with job opportunities for the youth among other things
