In a tragic incident early on Tuesday, September 3, a police corporal lost his life following an attack by unknown gunmen on the Oba police divisional headquarters and the nearby Oba Civic Centre in Anambra State.

According to reports, the assailants began firing sporadically as they attempted to breach the police station.

In their aggressive assault, they also threw petrol bombs at the facility, igniting fires that spread to several offices, including those at the Oba Civic Centre.

Despite the valiant efforts of police officers on duty and a Joint Security response team, the corporal sustained fatal injuries during the attack and later succumbed to them.

The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, condemned the attack, stating that the invasion of security facilities and violence against law enforcement officers is an affront to the nation.

He emphasized the need for justice, vowing to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are apprehended and held accountable.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and order in the region.

The police are actively investigating the attack and have called for community support in identifying and capturing the perpetrators.
