In response to the recent devastating floods in Borno State, the House of Representatives has donated N100 million to aid the victims.
A special delegation from the House, led by the Chairman of the Northern Regional Caucus, Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, visited Maiduguri on Tuesday afternoon to extend their sympathies and support to the state government and its residents.
During the visit, the delegation met with Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, to discuss the impact of the floods. Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who is acting on behalf of the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and all members of the House, presented the financial assistance.
Addressing reporters at the Government House in Maiduguri, Doguwa commended President Bola Tinubu for his prompt response to the disaster and his commitment to supporting Borno State and its residents.
Doguwa also expressed appreciation for the federal government’s pledge of aid.
“We also pledge the National Assembly’s readiness to work with the federal government to develop a legislative framework or budgetary intervention to assist state governments in addressing the impacts of flood disasters across the country,” Doguwa stated.
According to him, “The donation and the delegation’s visit from the House of Representatives’ is a commitment to supporting affected communities and addressing the challenges posed by natural disasters.”
