Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State is set to witness an exciting showcase of raw football talent as youths from the seventeen constituent communities gear up for the highly anticipated UAO Football League 2025—an initiative of the Member Representing Idemili North & South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Uche Annie Okonkwo (UAO).

The much-talked-about competition kicks off today and will run through January 2026. According to the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), each of the seventeen communities will field a team, with the overall champion walking away with a prestigious trophy and a cash prize. Rewards also await the runners-up, the highest goal scorer, most valuable player, best goalkeeper, and the most disciplined team.

Speaking on the purpose of the league, the Special Assistant on Media to Hon. Uche Annie Okonkwo, Comrade Kenechi Okoye, described the tournament as one of the lawmaker’s legacy programs designed to empower young people through meaningful engagement and career-shaping opportunities. He noted that professional football scouts will be on ground throughout the competition to identify exceptional talents capable of pursuing full-time football careers.

In his words: “Football is a global and highly lucrative business. The UAO League is strategically designed to discover and promote young talents, helping them transition into the professional football space. We believe many of our young lads will seize this opportunity to showcase their abilities before experienced scouts. That is the ultimate goal of the UAO League.”

Okoye, speaking on behalf of the LOC, assured residents of a smooth and well-organized tournament. He urged supporters from all seventeen communities to come out in large numbers on match days to cheer their teams, emphasizing that community support can greatly motivate players to perform at their best and fully display their talents.
