In Anambra, Local Government Treasurers Urged To Shun Financial Recklessness

The Chairman, Anambra State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Barrister, Vin Ifeanyi Ezeaka has called for the prudent management of Local Government Accounts with a view to promoting accountability in the Councils finances.

Speaking during a one day Capacity Building Seminar/Workshop, organized by the Commission for Treasurers in the 21 Council Areas of the State, Barrister Ezeaka said that going by the records, the financial management in the Unified Local Government is a total departure from the stipulated guidelines of the Financial Memoranda (FM)and Accounting practices in the past and called for a rejig and total turnaround of accounting practices in the Local Government.

He tasked LG Treasurers to in addition to being loyal to Constituted Authorities, to be firm, resolute and uncompromising in the discharge of their duties as contained in the financial guidelines.

As Custodians of the Assets of Local Government Councils, the Chairman urged them to end all manner of Civil/Executive financial recklessness and charged them to synchronize their operations with those of the Auditors to nip in the bud all financial misappropriation endemic in the System.

Barrister Ezeaka who restated his commitment to bequeathing the legacy of a transformed and functional Local Government System by engaging seasoned and goal oriented professionals advised the Council Treasurers to improve their Capacity by embracing Digital technology which is the ‘New Normal’ as henceforth, all appointments shall be based on Digital Driven Tests which is bound to favour ICT Compliant Staff.

He therefore charged them to take full control of the Physical Assets of the LG and boost its (IGR) by plugging all financial leakages and to also leverage on the advantages of the returned revenue windows to grow the financial and economic base of the Grassroots for a better Anambra State.
