The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, has tasked field commanders to be resilient, creative, and positive in their approach to national security.
Gen. Musa gave this task, while declaring closed, the Second Chief of Defence Staff Joint Task Force Commanders’ Conference in Abuja.
The Chief of Defence Staff Joint Task Force Commanders Conference is a platform to review operational strategy with a view to evolving better strategy to tackle emerging security threats across the federation in line with global best practices.
While bidding farewell to military commanders who had converged in Abuja from across all theatres of operation, for a three day intensive brainstorming and sharing of ideas said: “The responsibility we carry is weighty and the challenges we face are formidable, but I have full confidence in your capabilities and steadfastness. As we return to our respective theatres and formations, let us carry with us all that we have gained during this conference. Let us implement the lessons learned and the best practices shared. Let us use the momentum generated here to drive positive changes in our various theatres.I urge you to continue to collaborate across theatres and strengthen the bonds of comradeship amongst you, so that collectively we will overcome the challenges to our national security. This can only be better if we earn the trust of our people by upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights.
“let us leave this conference with a renewed sense of purpose, a shared vision for the future, and a commitment to excellence. Together, we can overcome our multifaceted challenges and build a safer, more secure Country for future generations. I want to thank you for your active participation and valuable contributions to this conference. I wish you safe return to your respective commands and locations with renewed vigour, resolve and zeal to do more”.
He noted that the challenges the nation face are not confined within our borders, therefore the military must acknowledge the immeasurable support it receive from its international partners.
“Through strong partnerships and collaboration, we can effectively address these challenges. Let us continue to strengthen these relationships, explore more opportunities for joint exercises and capacity building, and learn from the experiences of our global counterparts,” he said.
He said that the military in line with decision of Ministers of Defence and Chiefs of Defence Staff of the Lake Chad Basin, in Ndjamena, Chad a fortnight ago, must explore other avenues of sustaining their operations and not relying solely on international donors.
