..Beefs up warehouse security nationwide, denies looting
President Bola Tinubu has named Zubaida Umar as the Director-Deneral of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Spokesman for the President, Ajuri Ngelale, announced the appointment in a statement on Friday.
The statement read, “The new director-general of NEMA has over 20 years of work experience in diverse fields, including Human Resources, and Finance and Administration.
“She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration.
“She holds ACCA certifications in Public Financial Management and Digital & Sustainability Financing.
“As Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, Mrs. Umar drove the strategy and repositioning of the bank and successfully facilitated the transformation of the institution into a modern, digitized mortgage and financial service provider.”
Ngelale added that the President expects the new DG to bring the much-needed financial and operational discipline and refocus the agency into a performance-drliven and proactive emergency response provider.
NEMA had also refuted media reports suggesting the looting of its warehouse in Abuja, asserting that the warehouse in question does not belong to the agency.
This was made known in a statement by the NEMA Press Unit on Sunday, which was shared on the agency’s X account.
The statement said, “The attention of the National Emergency Management Agency has been drawn to media reports on Sunday alleging that the agency’s warehouse was looted by some hoodlums in Abuja.
“This is to clarify that the looted warehouse does not belong to National Emergency Management Agency. However, the agency sympathises with the owners of the looted facility.
“To forestall any security breach at National Emergency Management Agency facilities, the Director General Mustapha Ahmed has directed Zonal Directors and Heads of Operations to strengthen security in and around the Agency’s offices and warehouses nationwide.”
