NERD Unveils Digital Procedures for Enrolment of Institutions, Students

The Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) has released comprehensive procedures and guidelines for the enrolment of institutions, organisations, workers, and students, affirming that the entire process is fully digital and requires no physical presence.

This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the NERD’s Executive Director of Communication and Cyber Security, Haula Galadima.

Galadima said all enrolment activities are to be completed online and in real time via the official website, https://ned.gov.ng.

He explained that the system had been designed to electronically capture all necessary information while ensuring user convenience and data security.

She added that a dedicated support team had been deployed to assist individuals who encounter challenges during onboarding.

“No student or worker should leave their home or travel on account of NERD enrolment. Everything can be completed online, and help is available throughout the process,” she stated.

The spokesperson advised users to begin registration by visiting the NERD website and selecting the “Start” button at the top of the homepage, or by going directly to https://ned.gov.ng/onboarding.

As part of the enrolment framework, Galadima said every institution and organisation in Nigeria must appoint three key officers — the NERD Focal Officer (NFO), NERD Record Officer (NRO), and NERD Digitisation Officer (NDO) — in compliance with the Federal Government directive.

According to her, the NFO serves as the representative of the chief executive and must be a senior official with the necessary mandate.

The NRO, responsible for record verification, should operate under the Registrar or Chief Human Resource Officer, while the NDO provides first-line technical support for NERD-related operations within the institution or organisation.

Galadima noted that these officers were central to ensuring that records uploaded for digitisation and credential verification are authentic and properly approved by relevant senates or boards.

Their presence, she said, would help eliminate delays in verifying students and employees.

While confirming that hundreds of users had already completed the first phase of enrolment over the weekend, she urged institutions to promptly appoint their focal officers to validate submitted records.

She also revealed that individuals with institutional email addresses ending in regulated Nigerian domains such as .edu.ng or .gov.ng would enjoy faster verification under the system.

“Students need their lecturers, particularly their project supervisors and Heads of Department, to enrol, as these officials are required to authenticate the student’s academic submission using the approved digital tools,” Galadima added.

On academic credential verification, she reaffirmed that NERD’s system can instantly validate academic records once authorised officers upload senate- or board-approved data or marksheets directly or through the platform’s API.

The NERD enrolment drive, according to the agency, marks another step in the Federal Government’s effort to modernise educational data management, strengthen transparency, and enhance digital governance across Nigeria’s tertiary and professional institutions.
