As part of efforts to give meaning to the lives of street begging almajiris in Kebbi, a non governmental organisation Almajiri support initiative has said that it has enrolled no fewer than 2000 street begging almajiris in the state.

Speaking in Birnin Kebbi, the founder and Chairman of the initiative, Alhaji comrade Shehu Umar stated that the motive behind the enrollment was to give them the opportunity as Nigerians and as human beings to partake in the digital world and improve their economic well being by getting the opportunity to open accounts in Banks particularly those of them who are into business and other hand trades where they get money to invest or save them ”

“The world has gone digital and everything in Nigeria requires NIN including mobile line hence our reason to first sensitise them and later enroll them”.

He noted that at least 200 local almajiris schools were enrolled to give them sense of belonging and to enable them to access government welfare packages

He urged those he has not been able to reach to make out time to contact them at the centre in Birnin Kebbi.
