At a colourful and well-attended ceremony held at the Expo Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, was honoured with the prestigious award of ‘Aviation Sector CEO of the Year 2024’ by the Independent Newspapers Limited.

In his citation read by the organizers, Professor Anosike was honoured for his proactive efforts within a short time in transforming NiMet. The citation also mentioned the agency’s valued contribution to various socio-economic sectors of the country through partnerships with local and international institutions.

The citation said, among other things, “We particularly note your agency’s issuance of early warnings aimed at preventing the loss of property, including farmlands, and lives, especially to floods across the country due to climate change, which is a threat multiplier.”

Professor Anosike dedicated the award to the hardworking staff and management of NiMet, and thanked the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, for his supportive leadership.

Keyamo also received the Minister of the Year 2024 award by the organizers.
