As the Federal Executive Council(FEC) and the National Assembly are working towards laying the template for State Police take-off, Ondo State government has concluded plans for easy take-off of the new formation.

Fielding questions from newsmen during parade of crime suspects in Akure at the headquarters of Ondo State Security Network otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, the Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye disclosed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the state government have prepared the ground for the take-off of the State Police immediately the FEC and National Assembly approved the establishment of the security formation.

Akogun Adeleye, who supported that establishment of State Police to complement the efforts of all existing security agencies at the state level, noted that State Police is the appropriate solution to the current security challenges in the country.

He explained that state police would address all grassroots security problems due to the fact that residents of a particular area would know one another.

The Amotekun Corps Commander said: “We have at several occasions advanced the argument that State Police is the immediate solution to the perennial security challenges we have in Nigeria.

“This is because, in the first instance, local police knows the terrain and where to attack.

“The problem of the South-West is different from that of the South-South.
Somebody that comes from say the North Central and is in the modern security agency on transfer to Ondo State for instance, does not know the problem in Ilekun like Amotekun attended to it today.

“He would start asking people about the terrain, but before you know it, the criminals are gone.”

Buttressing his position on inherent advantages of State Police, Akogun Adeleye said: “One of the major factors responsible for the successes we have been recording in Ondo State Security Network(Amotekun Corps) is our knowledge of the local terrain.

“Apart from this, we also know ourselves. Once a visitor comes in, we will all know that this person was not one of us before and we can profile such person.

“There are many reasons s6tate Police remains the resolute solution to the grassroots insecurity we have in Nigeria today.

“The Ondo State government and the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa have put everything in place, all departments are ready for effective take-off of state policing in Ondo State.”
