A renowned tourism media expert and organizer in Nigeria, Ayo Omotosho has set up plans to hold first of its kind in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, a significant initiative aimed at fostering the development of the tourism industry in Nigeria.

According to a statement by Sonde Oluwaseun, Public Petitions Officer for Abuja Tourism Parliament, the event, known as the Tourism Parliament, an innovative concept developed by Travelogue Communication, aims to create a platform for stakeholders and media professionals.

Also, for policymakers to convene and discuss trending issues in Nigerian tourism, ultimately offering solutions and leveraging the media to drive tourism development in the country and across Africa.

Speaking about the event, Omotosho highlighted the uniqueness of the upcoming Tourism Parliament, which will be held for the first time in Abuja on August 15th at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

Previously, the series has been hosted in Lagos, but this edition is designed to target key players in the tourism space, including Governors and Executives who are influential in shaping tourism policies and development in Nigeria.

The event is expected to attract a host of dignitaries and media executives, making it a landmark gathering for the sector.

Omotosho emphasized the critical role that government at all levels—federal, state, and local—must play in advancing tourism in Nigeria.

He noted that while the private sector has made significant contributions to the industry, the government’s involvement is crucial in creating an enabling environment.

This includes the development of infrastructure, enhancing security measures, and positioning Nigeria as a leading tourism destination in Africa and beyond.

“Tourism is life, and it is closely tied to politics. We must add value through good practices and policy-making to ensure that tourism contributes to Nigeria’s development,” Omotosho stated.

He appealed to the Nigerian Govt to integrate tourism into its broader developmental agenda, particularly in light of the Renewed Hope Agenda while seeing tourism as a powerful tool for renewing hope among Nigerians and as a master plan for peace and development across the country.

The Tourism Parliament in Abuja is poised to be a groundbreaking event, setting the stage for a new era of collaboration between government, private sector stakeholders, and the media in driving the future of tourism in Nigeria and Africa.
