Respect S/Court Order, APC NWC, Govs Urge Malami, Emefiele

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress and governors elected under the platform of the party have urged the Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and the Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank, to respect a subsisting order of the Supreme Court.

The call was part of the resolution of a joint meeting of the APC National Working Committee and the APC Governor’s Forum which met for several hours Sunday afternoon at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja .

The joint meeting also called on President Mohammadu Buhari to immediately intervene in the standoff so as to ease the suffering of Nigerians occasioned by the Naira Swap policy.

Rising from the meeting attended by 14 APC governors ,Presidential Candidate of the party Asiwaju Bola Ahmed , and the full complement of members of NWC, APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu noted that the people and the national economy is on the edge and facing tremendous difficulties.

The resolution read:
“I’m sure you are quite aware of the fact that a meeting comprising of APC governors was held today and the leadership of the NWC of our great party was summon for this afternoon and we had discussion and at the end of the discussion, we have resolved as follows and this resolution is without prejudice or whatsoever to the case that is lying at the supreme court at this point in time. This has to do with the issue of currency redesign.

“We note very seriously that the programme and its implementation is causing tremendous difficulties to the people of Nigeria and to the national economy

“That we urge the Attorney General of the Federation and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to respect the supreme court order of Interim injunction which is still subsisting

“That the meeting is urging his Excellency, Mr President to intervene in resolving issues that are causing this great difficulties to the economy”.

Asked to comment on the presence of the Tinubu ,the APC chairman said his visit was normal adding that the leadership of the party and the governor’s forum are on the same page on the issue under discuss

Among governors the graced the crisis meeting include :Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Simon Lalong (Plateau ), Sani Bello (Niger) Abiodun Oyebanji,(Ekiti), Imo (Deputy Gov.) Katsina (Deputy), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe) Mohammed Matawalle (Zamfara), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Yahaya Inuwa (Gombe), Abubakar Badaru (Jugawa) Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Senator Atiku Bagudu( Kebbi).

Governors of Borno,Ogun, Lagos, Kano, Ondo, Ebonyi, Cross River and Kwara were not seen.

Recall that President Buhari had during his recent broadcast insisted that the old 500 and 1000 naira had seized to be legal tender while permitting the CBN to refloat the old 200 naira note.

Speaking the readiness of the party for next Saturday’s Jigawa State governor Abubakar Badaru said the party has mounted a strong campaign and expect Nigerians to elect its candidate

“Director General of the campaign and indeed, governors and the candidate across the country have been doing a tremendous job of mobilizing the Nigerian populace and we are very, very impressed with the support of the majority of Nigeria”, he said.
