President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a ₦1.78 trillion statutory budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the National Assembly, emphasizing his administration’s resolve to expand infrastructure, strengthen public services, and generate employment in Abuja.

The proposed budget, titled the “FCT 2025 Statutory Appropriation Bill,” was officially presented to the National Assembly via a letter read by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, during Tuesday’s plenary session.

In the communication, President Tinubu cited the authority vested in him by Section 299 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates him to lay the FCT’s annual budget directly before the legislature.

He noted that the ₦1,783,823,708,309 appropriation is designed to reinforce existing infrastructure initiatives, enhance administrative performance, and stimulate economic activities throughout the territory.

“This proposal will fund improvements in healthcare, social services, agriculture, and employment generation within the FCT,” the president stated.

According to Tinubu, 85 percent of the budget will be channeled toward the continuation of ongoing projects, while the remaining 15 percent will finance fresh projects intended to deepen development within the capital city.

“This reflects our administration’s steadfast commitment to continuity and sustainable urban development,” he added, calling on lawmakers to expedite the budget’s review and approval. “I urge the National Assembly to give this proposal the prompt consideration it deserves to fast-track Abuja’s development.”

Should the bill be approved, it would mark one of the largest fiscal plans in the FCT’s history, underscoring the federal government’s intensified efforts to modernize the capital’s infrastructure, enhance essential services, and broaden economic access for residents.

President Tinubu further stated that the significant allocation is in line with broader national goals of upgrading transportation, health, housing, and environmental systems to accommodate the growing needs of the FCT’s population.

He appealed to the parliament to accelerate the passage of the budget proposal, saying, “I urge the National Assembly to give this budget the urgent attention it deserves, in the interest of accelerating development within the FCT.”
