The Apo – six, lawyer, Amobi Nzelu Esq has accused the senators of Nigeria’s 10th Senate and members of Nigeria’s 10th House of Representatives of lacking good conscience.
Addressing journalists over the weekend on the on going impasse between the organised labour and and the government on minimum wage.
According to him, if one should put all indices on the ground, one would say that the money the workers are demanding is not unreasonable, but the population that is to be paid this money, makes it to be a bit on the high side.
Making his point, he said: “It is said that each senator takes about N14 million monthly and the House of Representatives member, about N13 million monthly, these people who are demanding a rise in minimum go to the same market as the legislators. The difference between N14 million and N13 million a senator and house member receive monthly, respectively and the amount being demanded by the organized labour is like the day and night.
He continued: “What is the justification for each senator to buy a car of about N16 million and each representative, a car of about N14 million, yet you can’t afford to give these people money to put food on their table and pay their children’s school fees. Where is the justification of spending this humongous amount of money in cars by the senators and the house members?
Under this condition now, the exchange rate of Naira to Dollar and the prices of goods and services have gone up beyond imagination. Food items, such as garri, rice, beans that used to be at the reach of the poor are no more at their reach, as their prices have skyrocketed.
The constitutional lawyer justified the accusations against them, with the reason that nobody was able to come and say, “I am not a part of this. According to him, this kind of thing happened in Kenya, they refused salary, a woman stood up and said: “No! I am not a part of this. How can I justify the money I was being offered?” She maintained that she wasn’t a part of it.
Accusing that the .00005 that constitute the National Assembly are breathing down on other Nigerians, from 1979 to date, he said: “Conscience is an open wound and only truth can heal it. Nigerians are bleeding and are not happy.Tinubu should rise up to the challenges and tell them the truth.”
He added: “Patriotism has gone. During the time of Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, Zik and Michael Okpara, these people sacrificed their comforts for Nigerians. As a girl, you needed a letter either from your senator for a job, they end up using you. Everything in this country is done on who know – who, not on merit again.”
