The opposition coalition has commended the Chairman of Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Robinson Ewor, and the Secretary, Field Nkor, for their commitment towards rebuilding the party in the state following recent judgment by the state High Court.
The Spokesperson, Opposition Coalition, Ikenga Ugochinyere incidentally is also the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), lauded the PDP State Chairman and Secretary for supporting the Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara to succeed.
The lawyer turned lawmaker said this in a statement on the heels of the decision of the Court which removed Aaron Chukwuemeka as the Chairman of PDP and the appointment of an interim leadership to run the affairs of the party.
Recall that the State High Court presided over by Justice Stephen Jumbo on Monday in a ruling on interlocutory injunction sought by Edwin Woko and three others, restrained Chukwuemeka and his state executives from parading themselves as executive members of the PDP in the state.
Woko and three others, all PDP members, challenged the congresses that produced Chukwuemeka’s executive committee, arguing that the congresses violated an existing court order, rendering it illegal.
To this end, the Spokesperson of the opposition coalition and PDP stalwart, applauded the bold steps taken so far by the new chairman and his exco to restore the party to its status by according Governor Fubara is rightful due as the party’s state leader.
“I hereby commend the Rivers State PDP chairman, Dr Robinson Ewor, the Secretary, Dr Field Nkor and the entire executives for their commitment to rebuilding the party and supporting His Excellency, Governor Fubara to succeed in the task of reconstructing, rehabilitating and reconciling Rivers State eight locust years.
“From the outset, Dr Ewor made it clear that the High Court ruling has restored the party to its original owners, with Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader and called on the national party executives to implement the court ruling and hand over the party’s reins to Governor Fubara.
“In a bold move, he announced that Wike and his loyalists, including Chukwuemeka and Martin Amaewhule, were no longer members of the party alleging they had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) giving their fraternity with the APC.
“His assurance to Nigerians that the party is now in the hands of genuine PDP members, not Wike and his cohorts who want to trade it to APC is a welcome declaration and statesmanly.”
“In his words: ‘we have taken over our party from members of the APC, which Nyesom Wike and his criminal gang handed over the party to, we have taken over. Today, the party is in the hands of PDP members, not APC members. What this judgement means to us is that the party is being restored to the original owners. The party is restored to the leader of the party, the Governor of the state, Fubara.
“We are calling on the National party executives to as a matter of urgency implement to the letter the judgment of the Rivers State High Court. To as a matter of urgency hand over all the reins of the party to the leader of the party at the state level who is the Governor of the state,” Dr. Ewor emphasised.
