The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has announced the appointment of Prof. Okorie Uche as its new Registrar.

COREN President, Prof. Sadiq Abubakar, made this known in a statement signed by Mrs Ojonugwa Haruna, Head, Corporate Advancement and Public Relations, COREN, on Friday in Abuja.

Abubakar said the appointment, effective March 15, was approved by the Council at its 183rd Ordinary Meeting.

Uche takes over from Prof. Adisa Ademola Bello, whose tenure had ended.

Abubakar said Uche, until his appointment, served as a Professor of Civil/Structural Engineering at Bayero University, Kano.

He described him as a distinguished engineer and academic with over three decades of experience in engineering education, research, and administration.

“He has published over 90 papers in reputable journals and conferences, and supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students.

“Uche is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (FNICE).

“He is also a registered engineer with COREN, and a member of several professional associations.

“Since he joined Bayero University in 2001, Uche has played a pivotal role in training and mentoring over 1,000 undergraduate and 300 postgraduate students,” Abubakar said.

According to him, the new registrar is significantly shaping the future of engineering in Nigeria.

Uche was born on Aug. 1, 1965, in Amuda-Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia.

He began his academic journey at the Development Primary School, Owerri, and continued at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2008.
