A Rivers State High sitting in Port Harcourt, has granted an order restraining security agencies from arresting or intimidating suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Chief of staff, Edison Ehie.

The order, issued by Honorable Justice I. P. C. Igwe, restrained the defendants from inviting, harassing, intimidating, arresting, or detaining the Ehie in connection with the alleged arson on the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The defendants in the suit include the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission, the Director-General, State Security Service (SSS), and the State Director, State Security Service, Rivers State.

The court in suit No PHC/1113/CS/2025, granted the claimant leave to serve the writ of summons and other relevant court processes on the defendants outside the jurisdiction of the court, specifically in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The court also permitted the claimant to serve the processes by substituted means, through Courier Service.

Furthermore, the court issued an interim injunction restraining the defendants from taking any action against the claimant pending the hearing of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.

The court also directed both parties to maintain the status quo ante litem as of March 30, 2025, pending the hearing of the motion.

However, the claimant was required to enter into an undertaking in the sum of N2,000,000.00 (Two Million Naira) to indemnify the defendants if the substantive motion turns out to be frivolous.

The substantive case has been adjourned to April 30, 2025, for the motion on notice interlocutory injunction.
