“Come unto me all ye that are burdened and heavy laden and I will give you rest” so assures Our Lord Jesus Christ in Matt 11:28. It is in the light of this Biblical verse that key stakeholders in Anambra State converged at Onitsha for a one day program tagged “Igbo WorldWide Solemn Assembly For Anambra State” to seek the attention of God over the current situation of things in Igboland.
The Solemn Assembly which was organized by Heavenly Mandate Global Mission, the Paramountcy of Ndigbo & Their Deliverance in collaboration with other groups and stakeholders led by Archbishop Mayor Dr Mike Chukwudum actually raised hope and expectations with end to kidnaping, ritual killings and release of Nnamdi Kanu as top of the targets just as notable Church leaders, traditional rulers, captains of industries and youth leaders with one voice asked God to help Ndigbo address numerous challenges facing them.
The Founder and Presiding Bishop of Grace of God Mission Bishop Paul Nwachukwu opened the floodgate of speech and prayer by asking Ndigbo to shun religious practice of idolatry and paganism and hold on tightly to Jesus Christ with a more stronger faith, love truth forgiveness and fear of God as according to him Jesus Christ remains the saviour of mankind and surely will bring succour to Ndigbo if Ndigbo is following Him in truth and in Spirit.
Bishop Nwachukwu told the gathering that the solution to the challenges facing Ndigbo is not about religion but about the true way of Christianity such as living by faith, love, truth, forgiveness and fear of God as laid down by Jesus Christ nothing that things are getting worse because people have abandoned the true way of Christian life and turned to religious practice of idolatry and paganism
Emphasizing that Christianity is not religion, Nwachukwu reminded the audience that Jesus Christ died and resurrected but other religious founder like Buddha, Confucius, Krishna and many more remains in the grave where they were buried adding that the resurrection of Jesus Christ means that He is the true way for mankind to surmount challenges and that’s why Ndigbo should hold on to Christ.
Insisting that Ndigbo have to retrace their steps to follow the true way of Jesus Christ to be able to live a better that pleases God and to achieve the set target for peace, tranquility and uninterrupted progress he commended the organizers of the program for coming up with such wonderful vision praying that God will use the opportunity to give attention to the yearning of Ndigbo.
In his address of welcome, the leader of the organizers Archbishop Mayor Dr Mike Chukwudum attributed the numerous challenges facing Ndigbo to sinful life noting that with nostalgia that Ndigbo have long time ago forgotten that they are children of Abraham and abandoned the way of God to dwell sin because of love of money and passion for ostentatious life.
Archbishop Chukwudum explained that the Solemn Assembly was organized to move Ndigbo back to God because as children of Abraham Ndigbo cannot do without God. He added “We have left our root to dwell in sin and to chase the material things of the world and that is why we are hit by problems including insecurity, kidnaping, ritual killing, organ harvesting by barbarians, marginalization and lack of unity among ourselves”
He described the Solemn Assembly as a wake up call involving every well meaning person of Igbo extraction both at home and in diaspora adding that the large turn out of the people especially relevant stakeholders for the Anambra Solemn Assembly shows that people are feeling the hit of problems bedeviling Ndigbo in recent years
According to him “everybody is feeling the negative impact of insecurity kidnaping, ritual killing and organ harvesting, marginalization of Ndigbo at the national level so we have to wake up and seek the face of the Lord, pray for forgiveness and for deliverance, the Solemn Assembly will be held across the State this is just the beginning”
Also speaking an elder statesman and captain of industry Dr Chike Obidigbo emphasized on unity and sacrifice among the people to ensure result oriented effort adding that a situation where people come together and sacrifice their personal interest for the general interest of Igboland will certainly accelerate the pace for good ideas and good vision to see the light of the day.
Dr Obidigbo who observed that selfish interest among the people is a major obstacle towards finding solution to the challenges facing Ndigbo commended the organizers for coming together to make sacrifice for the well-being of Igboland calling on others to support the organizers of the Solemn Assembly in any possible way within their capacity and put the overall interest Ndigbo. ahead of selfish interest.
Other speakers including Rev Dr John Ndubuisi who Chaired the Planning Committee, Bishop General Dr Desmond Okereke, Evangelist Dr Dan Obi, Apostle Nkechi Nwokedi and Hon Mrs Grace Anaekwe (Madam Black) dwelled more on the root of Ndigbo as children of Abraham by birth not by faith calling on Ndigbo to take advantage of the Solemn Assembly to reclaim their position as children of Abraham by coming back to God with a contrite heart so as to be in a stronger position to achieve victory over all things that are troubling Ndigbo.
Major highlights of the program were special prayer offered by the Akajiofor Igbo, HRM Eze Chukwuemeka Eri of Eri Ancient kingdom who prayed for forgiveness of sins of Ndigbo, end to kidnaping, ritual killings and release of Nnamdi kanu and practical enthronement of God as the Chairman/CEO, the Commander in Chief of the affairs of Ndigbo henceforth with agreement that God is now at the driving seat in Igboland onward
