The Executive Secretary, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria,( ARCN), Dr. Abubakar Adamu Dabban has began oversight visits to all colleges and institutes under the purview of the council.

 

Speaking Monday, September 22nd, 2025 at the National Institute for oceanography and marine institute Speaking, the executive Secretary Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr. Abubakar Adamu Dabban in his address express satisfaction in the work mode and togetherness this he terms the reason for the successes in NIOMR. He charged staff of NIOMA to be dedicated and support the executive director.

 

Highlighting achievement since he assumed office, he said talks are on with the Head of service to correct issues of staff welfare as it relates to condition of service, how to access funds through the Nigerian Agricultural development fund, (NADF) and TETFUND.

 

According to a statement signed by Khadijat O. Ameen, the Head, Public Relations, Dr Dabban said assurance has been given and the council will keep pushing until it gets result.

 

“This is a new dawn and we will change the narrative.” We want to have associate professors in the research circle”. ” We need your support to change the nomenclature.”

 

Speaking earlier, the Executive Director, Prof Abiodun Sule, national institute for oceanography and marine research, (NIOMR) said the institute has been able to consolidate on research and food security which has given birth to sustainability of the sector, poverty reduction, cleanliness of the marine environment which in turn gives birth to the GDP increase.

 

“The institute is established in November 1975, with the mandate to rationalize exploitation of Marine resources and conservation for sustainable development, safe and healthy marine environment.”

 

Still speaking on the mandate, he said they have the responsibility on Genetic improvement of marine and Brackish water , safety for officers and fisherman, post harvest trainings and management, training in marine fisheries amongst others.

 

The DG further pledge support for the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria on areas of data collection.

 

Shedding more light on staff strength Dr. Ademola Yakub, Director Biological Oceanography Department said they have 627 staff with consideration of female with over half as researchers.

Dr. Yakub said amongst achievements is the out stations in Badore Lagos, where fish feed is being produced, annexes which houses some laboratores as well just to mention but a few.

 

Similarly the executive Secretary visits the federal college of fisheries and marine technology, Lagos. The Executive Secretary, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar Adamu Dabban on his part appreciated the effort put in place in ensuring the school is in shape and beneficial to Nigerians. He assured them of the councils support where needed and bring them to the know on successes so far especially as it concerns welfare and scheme of service.

 

Dr. Dabban assured them that issues relating to Tertiary Education Trust Fund TETFUND and National Agriculture Development Fund, (NADF) will be solved soon.

 

” We have met with Executive Secretary of TETFUND and in the coming days, we are signing a memorandum of understanding with them, so be rest assured that issues bothering on fund for lecturers will be met soonest.”

 

The provost, Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Dr. Paul Chuks Onuoha outlined the college landmark achievements to include the accreditation of marine engineering and HND with additional 8 programs fully accredited with student population growth from 500 to 2000.

 

Dr Onuoha said the expansion brought about the need for more accommodations for the students hence the construction of additional 800 bed space hostels was built with a new structure for school of engineering alongside new laboratores and workshops.

 

The provost intimated that the school is not on power grid but solar system with 24/7 power supply pledge support to the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria.
