The National President of the Society for Advancement of Democracy, speaking on the recent trend of governors decamping to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described their actions as a betrayal of their electorates.
“Their people voted them in as governors under a particular party, and now they’re moving into APC without the consent of their people. It’s a betrayal of their electorates,” he said.
He emphasized that governors should only decamp if their people wanted them to, adding that the Society for Advancement of Democracy does not think such behavior is advancing democracy.
The National President also dismissed the notion that the massive decamping of governors is turning Nigeria into a one-party state, saying it’s a strategy for the 2027 election that may not yield the desired result.
Regarding the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he stated that the party’s convention, which elected Tanimu Turaki as national chairman, is the highest organ of the party, and its decisions should be respected.
He advised Turaki to focus on reconciling with those who left the party and to lead the party with truth and justice.
On the threat of insecurity, he called on Nigerians to address the issue of killings and kidnappings, saying it’s not good for the country.
Regarding the sentence passed on Nnamdi Kanu, he declined to comment, saying it’s best left to those handling the case.
He also expressed disappointment with the President’s appointments, noting that people from the southeast are being overlooked.
The National President emphasized that America should respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and not interfere in its internal affairs, adding that the country’s insecurity issues should be addressed by Nigerians themselves.
