The Association of Corporate Editors (ACOE) has celebrated Nigerian youths on the occasion of the 2026 International Youth Day, urging them to stay resilient and actively contribute to the country’s development.

The Chairman of ACOE, Sola Akingboye, issued a statement on Wednesday in Abuja to mark the annual event.

Akingboye recognised the vital role young Nigerians play in the nation’s social, economic, and political progress, emphasising the importance of staying focused and dedicated to building a better future.

He also appealed to the older generation to create opportunities for young people to showcase their talents and make meaningful contributions to national growth.

According to him, Nigerian youths have the energy, creativity, and capacity needed to drive positive change, but they require the support and encouragement of older adults to reach their full potential.

However, the ACOE president urged young Nigerians to avoid violence, political thuggery, and other social vices that could jeopardise their futures.

He warned that being used for acts of violence or other destructive activities could damage their aspirations and prevent the country from benefiting from their talents.

Akingboye further called on Nigerian youths to take a greater interest in governance and democratic processes, especially ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He encouraged them to participate en masse during the elections and fulfil their civic duties by engaging actively in the electoral process.

He stated that youth involvement in governance is vital to ensuring their interests and hopes are fairly represented in national decision-making.

The ACOE president also appreciated the efforts of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and the Ministry of Youth Development, recognising their leadership in making Nigerian youths more resourceful and productive.

He said both institutions’ contributions to youth development deserve ongoing support and acknowledgment.

International Youth Day is observed every year to spotlight issues affecting young people and celebrate their contributions to society.

Akingboye urged Nigerian youths to use this occasion to reaffirm their commitment to peace, responsible citizenship, innovation, and national advancement, while assuring them of ongoing support from stakeholders across the country.
