Following the unabated scarcity and hike in price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in the country, the Edo State Government has called on Marketers to desist from inflating prices in the state, saying that efforts are at top gear to collaborate with relevant authorities to make petroleum products available to marketers in the State in the interest of Edo State citizens.

This was contained in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Engr. Ethan Uzamere and made available to journalists in Benin city.

According to the statement, ” the State Government in conjunction with the Nigerian Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) is working assiduously in putting measures in place to source PMS for Independent Marketers in the state in order to flood the state with PMS which will help to bring down the pressure on prices at the pump.

” However, all Major Marketers in the state should desist from selling above the approved pump price in the interest of the citizens of Edo State”.

The Commissioner also called on petroleum marketers to desist from diversion of PMS and also to collaborate with the state Government and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a hitch free supply chain, adding that a monitoring team has been put in place to work hand in hand with security agencies to monitor distribution and sales of PMS.

While sympathizing with Edo people over the challenges faced in the purchase of PMS at filling stations across the state, the commissioner also observed that the long queues are occasioned by bottlenecks in the fuel supply chain and shortfall of the products at depots.

Engr Uzamere however used the opportunity to appreciate the citizens of the state for their cooperation and understanding during this trying period and reaffirmed the commitment of the state Government to the economic wellbeing of the good people of the great state.
