Vice Chancellor of Wesley University Ondo, Rt. Rev.(Prof) Samuel Sunday Obeka, has charged over 170 matriculated students to remain resolute and focused to surmount the various challenges they would probably encounter during their stays in the school.
Speaking at the university 15th matriculation ceremony, Obeka said that the university administration will ensure that the students stay in the school would be pleasant, in turn requires them to strictly comply with rules and regulations.
He added that the university has concluded
re-accreditation and verification of 44 programmes by the Nigerian Universities
Commissions (NUC), which among, are courses in school of Post-Graduate Studies,
Nursing Science, Laws and others.
“Part of the development in the university, is that more qualified and experienced teaching and non-teaching staff have been employed within this academic session.
The new academic programmes and colleges have witnessed some renovations
towards resumption in September 2023.
“We don’t want to make our students’ academic robots without skills that would make them useful to themselves after the completion of their studies in Wesley University Ondo. This explains why the school has made entrepreneurial studies and ICT knowledge and certification compulsory for
all categories of students with establishment of an online centre expected to commence online in September, 2023”, he said.
He commended the parents and guardians who believe in the cause of the university and entrusted their children into their hands, as he solicit for their cooperation and partnership for the progress of the institution.
The Methodist Church Bishop, advised, “As new students, you need to be told from the onset that life in a tertiary institution is not all bread and butter. If you were the local champions in your various secondary schools or any other institutions that prepared you for
admission into Wesley University Ondo, you will meet your competitors. Therefore, as you complete your admission process by swearing to the matriculation oath today, you should endear yourselves to your studies geared toward academic excellence.
“As a faith based university, the institution has
zero tolerance for all forms of cultism and indecent dressing on the part of male and females. Smoking of cannabis, marijuana, cigarettes, or other hard drugs are prohibited.
Spotting of breads-goatie and tattoos are strictly prohibited too. There is no room for examination malpractices neither is their room for other anti-social misconduct that can bring the image of the university into disrepute, “he cautioned.
