Police Nab Suspected Bandits Killer Of ACP Umar, Others

The Police in Katsina state has caught up with a suspected notorious arm bandit involved in the death of the late Area Commander in Dutsinma, ACP Aminu Umar and one other officer last year in the state.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the state Police Public Relations Officer disclosed this while parading the suspects to newsmen at the command headquarters in Katsina on Thursday.

He said at about 1730 hrs, based on credible intelligence, the command succeeded in arresting the suspect, one Saidu Yaro, alias ‘Sabon Jini’,” aged 30 years old, of Tsaskiya Village, Safana LGA, who has been on the command wanted list for a series of offenses such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other heinous crimes.

Aliyu added that, nemesis caught up with the suspect when he was arrested in connection with the kidnapping of one Hussaini Nabara, of Kagara Village, Dutsin-ma LGA.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect, under the command of one Abubakar Jankare, a suspected notorious bandit leader, conspired with three others, Usman Modi-Modi, Auta Nokia, and Sule Malam Aibo, amongst others, now at large, to ambush the late Area Commander in Dutsinma, ACP Aminu Umar, in an encounter that led to the deaths of the officer and another personnel.

The suspect confessed to the commission of the offense and investigation is ongoing, the Police image maker maintained.

Similarly, the command has arrested a notorious suspected bandits informant and arms smuggler recovering 404 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition in the state.

According to him, On September 2, 2023, at about 2230 hrs, based on credible intelligence, the command succeeded in arresting one Ibrahim Abdullahi alias Dogo, age 35 years old of Sabon Garin Dunburawa village, Batsari LGA, a suspected notorious arm smuggler.

During the course of investigation, the suspect was trailed and arrested at Rahamawa quarters. Upon instant search, four hundred and four rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered in his possession.

The suspect, he said confessed to the commission of the offense and further stated that he received the exhibits alongside one Yakuba, alias Dan Kwandago, of Kankara LGA, and one Salisu at Wukari LGA, Taraba State, all presently at large.

The command spokesman however maintained that, efforts are on with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects as the investigation is ongoing.
