The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa in his bid towards finding lasting peace in Plateau state, has sent a Special Fact Finding Team led by the former Commander of the Special Task Force (STF) in Jos, Major-General Augustine Agundu (rtd), to Plateau State to find the root cause of the incessant attacks in the state.

Speaking during a courtesy call on Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Agundu at the weekend, General Agundu said the whole country was worried about the crisis on the Plateau, adding that there was a need to take concrete actions to nip the unfortunate development in the bud.

According to him, the military wants permanent peace in Plateau State, which many Nigerians see as the Home of Peace and Tourism.

He stressed that generations unborn would not forgive them if no positive action is taken to end the crisis.

Agundu stated that ethnic-motivated killings and unnecessary vengeance must stop.

On the alleged exclusion of other tribes in the recruitment of the state security outfit, Operation Rainbow, General Agundu said the action was unprofessional.

According to him, morality must be preached so that a killer or criminal jailed some days ago would not be seen on the street again walking as a free man because he had paid the jail bill.

Agundu stressed that, it is time to preach reconciliation because people need peace.

Responding, Governor Mutfwang praised the Commander, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), who doubles as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division of the Nigerian Army Jos, Major General Abdulsalami Abubakar, saying the OPSH has been doing its best to keep peace on the Plateau.

Mutfwang expressed happiness that the CDS reposed confidence in members of the team to unravel the cause of the crisis, adding that his administration inherited Operation Rainbow from the past administration and has not done anything to its operation.
