The renowned playwright and poet William Shakespeare (1564–1616) famously stated in his play “Twelfth Night”, Act 2, Scene 5: “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

This timeless quote encapsulates the different paths to greatness, but those who attain it through resilience, hard work, and perseverance often stand out as the most accomplished. This sentiment perfectly reflects the journey of Alhaji Bukar Ali Dalori, a man who refused to let his humble beginnings define his future.

Through sheer determination and dedication, Dalori rose from a modest childhood in Dalori town, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, to the pinnacle of Nigerian politics as the Deputy National Chairman (North) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His story is a testament to the power of ambition and effort – proving that, indeed, from a small acorn, a mighty oak tree grows.

At the moment, in the political landscape of Borno State, one name continues to stand out – Ali Bukar Dalori. A seasoned politician, astute businessman, and grassroots mobilizer, who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills throughout his political career.

Born on June 16, 1962, in Dalori town, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, Alhaji Bukar Ali Dalori began his journey with a strong educational foundation. However, rather than following a conventional career path like many of his peers, he chose the more challenging route of entrepreneurship at a young age, venturing into the trade of commodities and household goods. His keen business acumen and determination quickly set him apart, earning him recognition as one of the most successful young businessmen in Konduga and beyond.

His entrepreneurial exploits expanded in the early ‘90s, as he ventured into the automobile industry, establishing himself as a prominent car dealer in northern Nigeria. Dolari’s business operations spanned the Lagos-Cotonou auto trade route, making him a key player in the regional vehicle importation sector. His success in business, coupled with his generosity and commitment to community development, made him a household name and a respected figure in Borno State.

With success came influence. Dalori’s philanthropic activities, grassroots engagement, and support for the people attracted the attention of political leaders. Despite his initial reluctance, the overwhelming support from the community propelled him into the political arena.

His political journey began in 1991, when he was elected Councillor for Dalori Ward in Konduga Local Government Area. By 1992, he had risen to become the Chairman of Konduga Local Government, securing victory under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) during the Babangida transition programme. That served as his political breakthrough as he was re-elected the Chairman of Konduga Local Government. In 2012, Dalori was elected Member of the Borno State House of Assembly under the ANPP. His leadership qualities became even more evident when he played a pivotal role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014, uniting opposition parties to create Nigeria’s ruling party after dislodging the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from power.

Fate entrusted him with the chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State, a role in which he distinguished himself as a dedicated party man, skilled political organizer, strategic manager, and bridge builder. His leadership not only strengthened the party’s structure but also solidified its dominance in Borno State.

His leadership style earned him recognition at the national level, and he was appointed Chairman of APC State Party Chairmen in Nigeria, a position he held for three consecutive terms spanning nine years.

In August 2023, Dalori’s influence further expanded when he was appointed Deputy National Chairman (North) of the APC, overseeing party affairs in the 19 northern states. His tenure has been marked by political stability, grassroots mobilization, and strategic party-building efforts.

Ali Bukar Dalori embodies the qualities of a true political leader—tact, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to the people. His ability to navigate the complex dynamics of Nigerian politics while remaining connected to the grassroots sets him apart.

Described as a detribalized Nigerian, a patriot, and a political influencer, Dalori has earned widespread respect across party lines. He prioritizes inclusivity, empowerment, and development, making him a beacon of hope for Borno State.

Alhaji Bukar Ali Dalori is a pragmatic and hands-on leader whose extensive experience in politics, business, and public administration sets him apart as an ideal political and executive figure. His deep understanding of governance, resource management, and strategic planning, combined with his strong network of political and business associates, positions him as a leader capable of driving meaningful development.

With a proven track record in party leadership, grassroots mobilization, and economic enterprise, Dalori embodies the qualities necessary for effective state administration. His expertise in resource mobilization, deployment, and utilization is essential in ensuring that government policies and programmes translate into tangible benefits for the people. His ability to navigate complex political landscapes, build consensus, and implement strategic policies makes him well-suited to lead in an era where efficiency, accountability, and innovation are paramount.

In an environment where governance demands experience, resilience, and foresight, Dalori’s background and leadership acumen make him a compelling choice for higher responsibility.

As Borno State continues to seek strong and visionary leadership, Ali Bukar Dalori stands as a symbol of experience, stability, and progress. His journey—from a young entrepreneur to a key national political figure—reflects the power of hard work, perseverance, and selfless service.

In recognition of his outstanding leadership qualities and contributions, the African Institute of Administration, Science, and Commerce (IAEC) in Lomé, Republic of Togo, conferred upon Dalori the prestigious Doctorate Honoris Causa in International Relations and Diplomacy in October 2023. Truly, a golden fish has no hiding place.
