The Principal Partner of Chinenye Chambers, Abuja, Barrister Amobi Nzelu has commended the Federal Government’s initiative to provide 15 gas-powered buses to transport trade union members and passengers freely in Abuja.

Nzelu popularly known as Apo Six lawyer, due to the case he did pro bono for six youths allegedly killed by the police in Abuja years back, addressed a few journalists recently in his office.

The FG has recently given five buses each to each of the transport trade unions, like Road Transpo Employers Association of Nigeria (TREAN), National Union of Road Transportation Workers (NURTW), among others.

Nzelu described the initiative as a step in the right direction, acknowledging that the country’s problems are enormous and cannot be tackled overnight. He emphasized the need for a gradual approach to addressing the nation’s challenges, citing the importance of starting with small steps to cushion the effect of the harsh economy.

Nzelu also highlighted the need for willpower to lift the country out of poverty, noting that about 90% of Nigeria’s population of over 220 million people live below the poverty line.

However, Nzelu expressed disappointment over the recent purchase of a luxury car at about N160 million per one, for each senator, when there are tokunbo cars sold at about N5million or highest N25 million along Kubwa road in Abuja, stating that such extravagance is unacceptable in a country grappling with poverty and economic challenges.
