In line with its ‘Back to School Program,’ His Treasure House International Ministries, Abuja on Monday commissioned a block of class rooms and an office it renovated at the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Durumi II, located in Durumi III Community, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the FCT.

While commissioning the classrooms, an office and presenting school bags, water bottles, writing materials, the Ministry’s Lead Pastor Godwin Uwubanmen, appealed to the Area Council, to urgently do more in its efforts to equip and develop public schools. He noted with concern that proper equipment and development of public schools will avail children in public schools, the opportunity to learn in a conducive environment, like their counterparts in private schools.

“AMAC is the closest government to the people. I hail them for their performance, but my appeal is that, whatever they are doing, let them redouble it, because most children in the public schools can’t enjoy what those in the private schools are enjoying. So let the government take proper care of the public schools, for the interest of the children, schooling there.”

When asked, the pastor informed that the reason why they have been assisting the school regularly is due to the fact that it is within their catchment area, even as he added that they wouldn’t be coming to the school’s assistance, if the management hasn’t been utilizing their assistance, saying, “God doesn’t encourage wastage.”

“This is one of the schools within our catchment area, we have been assisting, for public school children to learn in a conducive environment and have access to facilities like their counterparts in private schools. Our target is for the people to glorify God from what we are doing,” Pastor Godwin Uwubanmen explained.

Among what the Ministry are doing, according to the lead pastor are: visiting hospitals and paying bills for those who cannot afford to pay; organizing free medical treatment in communities; visiting prisoners and; giving scholarships in public schools to indigent students. All these, the church have been doing through members’ goodwills and donations.

Head of Examination Unit, LEA, AMAC, Solomon F. Jabi, when spoken to hailed the Ministry for the gesture, even as he advised the school’s management to utilize the assistance given to them. Jabi also said that the government can come in to fence the school, provide security and post more qualified teachers to the school.

Similarly, the Headteacher, Mrs Franca Durhen Kaslong promised to ensure that assistance from the Ministry is well utilized, even as she decried neglect of public schools. The headteacher therefore said that the abandonment of schools should be blamed on the government.

“Due to the neglect we have been suffering from the government, we have been going on strike. Abandonment of schools should be blamed on the government. We usually embark on strike, due to the fact that the government doesn’t pay our entitlements.

“So while I hail the giant strides of this Ministry in this school, I shall ensure that the assistance is utilized. As I appeal to the government to recognize our efforts and also take proper care of schools, I call on parents to do their parts as we the teachers are doing ours,” the headteacher appealed, just as she prayed for the upliftment of the church.
